Paul A Drockton M.A.: Is Rev. Moon a "Manchurian Candidate"?

Of all the religious paradoxes in this world, none stand out more than the life and times of the Reverend Sun Myung Moon and his Unification Church.

"The Moon family held traditional Confucianist beliefs, but converted to Christianity and joined the Presbyterian Church when he was around 10 years old. Moon taught Sunday school for the church. On April 17, 1935, when he was 16 (in Korean age reckoning), Moon says he had a vision or revelation of Jesus while praying atop a small mountain. He says that Jesus asked him to complete the unfinished task of establishing God's kingdom on Earth and bring peace to the world. When he was 19 (in Korean age reckoning), Moon criticized Japanese rule over Korea and Japanese education at the graduation ceremony speech, which made himself a focus of police." (source)

Moon was arrested in 1946 by North Korean officials.

"Moon was arrested again and was given a five-year sentence in 1948 to the Hŭngnam labor camp, where prisoners were routinely worked to death on short rations. Moon credits his survival to God's protection over his life and his habit of saving half his meager water ration for washing the toxic chemicals off of his skin after long days of work, bagging and loading chemical fertilizer with his bare hands. After serving 34 months of his sentence, he was released in 1950 when UN troops advanced on the camp and the guards fled." (ibid.)

North Korea was separated into two countries in 1946.

"In 1950 the Korea Peninsula was divided between a Soviet-backed government in the north and an American-backed government in the south. The division of Korea into two halves had come at the end of World War II. In August of 1945 the Soviet Union invaded Korea, which had been under Japan's control since 1910. Fearing that the Soviets intended to seize the entire peninsula from their position in the north, the United States quickly moved its own troops into southern Korea. Japanese troops surrendered to the Russians in the north and to the Americans in the south. In an effort to avoid a long-term decision regarding Korea's future, the United States and the Soviet Union agreed to divide Korea temporarily along the 38th parallel, a latitudinal line that bisected the country. This line became more rigid after 1946, when Kim Il Sung organized a communist government in the north---the Democratic People's Republic. Shortly after, nationalist exile Syngman Rhee returned to Korea and set up a rival government in the south---the Republic of Korea (ROK). Each government hoped to reunify the country under its own rule." (source)

So, for 34 months, the Rev. Sun Myung Moon was a prisoner in a Communist Forced Labor Camp. He states that he survived not being "worked to death" by good hygene. In my opinion, it doesn't add up. Starvation rations and hard labor almost always lead to disease and death. That is what forced labor camps are supposed to do. Kill people. One would think that, after a three year stint in one of the worst hell-holes on earth, the good Reverand would have been but skin and bones. Yet, here we have a picture of Moon carrying another prisoner on his back after the camp "liberation".

Good hygene goes a long way in a North Korean death camp. Which raises the question, what else happened over those 33 months? Was Moon tortured and subjected to the "brainwashing" and mind control experiments used elsewhere in the "Evil Empire"?

Is it possible that Moon was left behind by the North Koreans intentionally? Perhaps as a religious "Manchurian Candidate"? The Communists killed Christians and Christian Ministers, yet somehow Moon survived. This fact by itself cannot help but raise suspicions.

If Moon wasn't an Intelligence Asset, then he sure as heck acted like one. In 1996, Moon held a three day event called the Family Federation for Peace. I quote the following from a radio program discussion:

"Other participants who were paid speakers at that event included Beverly LaHaye of Concerned Women for America, Gary Bauer of the Family Research Council, Rev. Robert Schuller of the Crystal Cathedral. Pat Boone provided the entertainment. Bill Cosby, when he found out that it was a Unification Church function, tried to decline to appear. They threatened him with a lawsuit. This function was sponsored by The Washington Times Foundation which is an adjunct to The Washington Times Newspaper that is always promoted by Christian political activists as the "conservative" Washington Times, never as the Unification Church-owned Washington Times.

Also, Ralph Reed of the Christian Coalition was a paid speaker at that event.

KELLEIGH: We know Ralph Reed is an adherent to Moon because in his book that came out, don't ask me the name of it because I don't know what it is, but it came out last October or November. He gave glowing reports in that book about Dr. Robert Grant and American Freedom Coalition. Dr. Robert Grant is a member of the Council For National Policy and American Freedom Coalition is a Moon front-organization within the Christian Right circles and the members of the Council For National Policy are widely known; James Dobson, Gary Bauer, Phyllis Schlafly, Don Wildmon. Jerry Falwell was a member at one time. I don't believe he is anymore. But, Pat Robertson, Nelson Bunker Hunt, all the names that you would know in the Christian Right that most uninformed Americans out there consider conservative. Isn't that right?

CHEY: Yes. You know, when Dr. Robert Grant... his official stand on it. This is an article that he wrote to the Washington Post on October 29, 1989 rebutting an article that identified him, the American Freedom Coalition as a Moon front-group said,

"I am not now nor have I ever been a follower of Reverend Moon or a member of the Unification Church. I am an evangelical Christian trained at the Fuller Theological Seminary who belongs to Christ and to no one else.... of course, those few individuals who I knew to be Unificationists, I have found them to be decent hardworking and talented men and women who agree with my and the AFC traditional values platform and political philosophy..."

So, he found common ground on traditional values and political philosophy and denies being a follower of Rev. Moon; but, does admit in the article that he had received $5,252,473.00 from Unification Church business interests.

KELLEIGH: Yes, and this was printed in October 1989 and that was only in two years. He was stating that he'd received those funds since April of 1987. So in two years he had received over 5 million dollars from Moon.

CHEY: ...and had no problem with it and denied that he was allied with Moon. He is a pastor.

KELLEIGH: It was clear in David Racer's book, NOT FOR SALE, because Racer was involved in this. There are many statements in that book that tell the truth about AFC..." (Source)
