The people of Utah are not happy right now. Not happy at all. It is now known that the Deseret Morning News, the State paper with the largest Mormon readership, spiked the story that would have exposed the confessed Pedophile, and now disgraced former Republican House Chairman in 2001-2002.
The paper has sat on this story for almost a decade. Most blame the paper's Editor, Joseph Cannon, for the "cover-up".
Joseph Cannon was the Republican Party Chairman in Utah that assisted Garn's meteoric rise to the pinnacle of power in Utah politics. This he did with full knowledge that Garn had carnal relations with a 15 year old girl (some say she might have been only 13). Cannon was also a Board member on the Deseret Morning News. For the last 5 years, he has been the paper's Editor and Moral Voice.
This is not the first scandal for Joe Cannon, and, if the others are any indication, he will have to be removed as Editor of the Deseret News by increasing public outrage. And, the people of Utah should be outraged.
Newspapers are meant to be the first line of defense in exposing great evils, not embracing or defending them. Mormon Utah is a family state where parents are already uneasy by the growing number of sex-offenders in their communities. The thought that the very newspaper they look to for protection and guidance could be involved in such a massive cover-up has added Jet Fuel to a smoldering brush fire.
Failure to report a felony in Utah is a crime. As I have said before, the only ones that support a perp are other perps. Here are just a few of the comments on Cannon's behavior:

Other bloggers say the woman says there was sexual contact.... Blogger says also that Joseph Cannon, editor of the Deseret News knew about this in 2001. So why the late breaking story? Why did Cannon keep it under
wraps? Does sexual hankie pankie with an underage girl make
one a pedophile? And if there is one victim, are there not usually more?
Why is this guy not in jail instead of being applauded by the Utah Senate? Sounds like a bunch of some load
of stinky stuff. Sign the petition to bounce Joe Cannon off of the Deseret News while you are at it.
